Dan Evans v Arthur Rinderknech Head to Head

Evans and Rinderknech are yet to play on the pro tour. Thursday’s match at the Australian Open will be their first official meeting.

Evans Mauls Goffin To Advance

Dan Evans handed David Goffin one of the most chastening defeats of his career as he knocked out World No. 45 in the first round in emphatic style.

Evans won 6-4 6-3 6-0 taking just an hour and 48 minutes to round off victory on Court 13 and joined fellow Briton Andy Murray in the next round.

Goffin entered this match with serious question marks surrounding his well-being. He recently retired from his quarterfinal match against Murray at the Sydney International this past week due to knee pain.

And it is unknown whether the same knee that kept Goffin in the treatment room in the second half of last season has flared up, but the Belgian looks a shadow of the player that memorably rose to World No. 7 a few years ago.

The first break point in the match was incidentally a set point as Evans made his move. The one-handed Brit would assert his dominance from that moment on as his opponent’s movement became increasingly limited.

Rinderknech Continues Terrific Start To 2022

There was no case of Arthur Rinderknech ending his Australian summer adventure just yet as the Frenchman picked up from where he left off this past week.

The big-serving Frenchman recently made his first ATP final at the Syndey International last weekend, losing heartbreakingly to Thanasi Kokkinakis.

And in a curious twist of fate, Rinderknech drew an Australian for his first round at Melbourne Park in the form of Alexei Popyrin. The 22-year-old Popyrin has never lost an opening match at his home Slam in each of the past four years but was run ragged at times by the sheer power coming off the Frenchman’s racket before bowing out.

Rinderknech passed Popyrin in the rankings at the start of the week as he continues his ascent. And he won the battle of the big-hitters in five sets, out-acing Popyrin (16 to 12) and saving an astonishing 13 break points from 16 on his serve

Evans v Rinderknech Prediction and Tip

Rinderknech cooled off and was fully refreshed after getting a couple of days off following that week-long stay in Sydney. But he is not going to have a lot of joy trying to overpower Evans. The British No. 2 has a killer backhand slice that will completely neutralize the Frenchman’s biggest strength in this match.
