Federico Coria v Juan Pablo Ficovich Head to Head

It will be their first meeting on the tour, but they have met 10 times before at the lower levels, with Coria enjoying a 9-1 lead against Ficovich. The latter however won the most recent battle between the two in Uruguay in 2019.

They have never met outside of clay courts.

Coria Hoping to Better Last Year’s Performance

Coria hasn’t had a great start in 2022, losing his first round match at the Australian Open in straight sets to Gael Monfils. But given his record on hard courts he wasn’t expected to go too far in the tournament either.

Now he is back on the surface that brings the best out of him where he will be looking to shine once again.

Last year, the 29-year-old Argentine produced his best result in Cordoba, reaching the semifinals before falling to surprise champion Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Coria had lost in the first round of the tournament on his main draw debut in 2020 and didn’t qualify in 2019.

The World No. 64 enjoyed a pretty good run in 2021, which also saw him reach his maiden ATP final in Bastad only to finish runner-up to Casper Ruud.

Coria also featured in four Challenger finals last season, winning the titles in Prostějov and Brasilia and finishing runner-up in Milan and Salzburg.

Overall, the World No. 64 had a 16-18 record on the tour last year, which also included a quarterfinal finish in Belgrade-2.

Ficovich Qualifies for Main Draw

World No. 230 Juan Pablo Ficovich will be playing his second main draw match on the tour on Tuesday. His first was also in Cordoba, last year, where playing as a qualifier he went down fighting to Italy’s Gianluca Mager in three sets.

Just like last year, the 25-year-old has once again made it to the main draw through the qualifiers. Ficovich rallied from a set down to beat Kazahstan’s Dmitry Popko 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the first qualifying round on Sunday and then knocked out Serbia’s Nikola Milojevic in another tight three-set contest on Monday.

The Argentine, who won his maiden Challenger title in Sao Paulo in November last year, needed three hours and seven minutes to beat Milojevic.

Ficovich saved seven of 11 break points and converted six of 10 to advance into the main draw in Cordoba for the second consecutive year. Can he get his first tour-level main draw win on Tuesday?

Coria v Ficovich Prediction and Tip

Coria is a far more accomplished player. He is much more experience, and has a 9-1 record against his opponent. Expect the World No. 64 to ease into the next round for a meeting with top seed Diego Schwartzman, who has a first-round bye.

Tip: Coria to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
