World No. 128 Tomas Martin Etcheverry will be making his second appearance in Cordoba. Last year, the 22-year-old had come through the qualifiers and won his first round match against Andrej Martin before falling to Albert Ramos-Vinolas

Etcheverry has made a solid start in 2022, having qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open.

The Argentine defeated Kimmer Coppejans, Jason Kubler and Flavio Cobolli to reach the main draw, but lost in the Round of 128 to Pablo Carreno Busta.

This will be Etcheverry’s second main draw appearance this year, He had lost in the first qualifying round in Melbourne and retired midway during his first round match against Francisco Comesana at the Santa Cruz Challenger last week.

Overall, Etcheverry has a 1-2 career record on the tour, with his win over Martin in Cordoba last year remaining his only victory so far.

On the Challenger Tour, the right-handed clay-court specialist reached three finals last year, winning the titles in Perugia and Trieste, both in Italy and finishing runner-up in Cordenos.

Jarry Comes Through Qualifies

Chile’s Nicholas Jarry outlasted Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan in the final round of qualification on Monday to advance to the main draw in Cordoba for the third time in his career.

Jarry was beaten in the opening round of the tournament in 2019, but he won his first round match last year against Jaume Munar only to fall in the next round to Benoit Paire.

This year he will be aiming to go even deeper in the tournament and brings in good from into the main event. The Chilean, who struck 14 aces to knock out France’s Maxime Janvier in the first qualifying round on Saturday, needed two hours and 44 minutes to edge past Galan 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5.

The 6’6″ 26-year-old has featured in three ATP finals over his career, winning the title in Bastad in 2019 and finishing second best in Sao Paulo an Geneva in 2018 and 2019. He has a healthy 37-26 record on clay.

Having missed most of 2020 due to suspension for testing positive for banned substances in 2019, Jarry made a comeback in 2021 with two Challenger titles. The Chilean will be hoping to continue to build on the good start he got in the qualifying rounds.
