Nikoloz Basilashvili v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two 29-year-olds.

Basilashvili Looking for His First Win in 2022

Nikoloz Basilashvili is still looking for his first win in 2022. The fourth seed, who received a first-round bye, began the season at the ATP Cup, losing to Diego Schwartzman in the first singles match against Argentina and then withdrawing against Stefanos Tsitsipas while 1-4 down in the first set.

He next featured at the Sydney International and the Australian Open, making first-round exits from both the tournaments after suffering back-to-back losses to Andy Murray. Both those matches needed a deciding set and on both the occasions it was the Scot who handled the pressure better.

The World No. 21 is coming off a pretty good 2021 season, when he won titles in Doha and Munich and finished runner-up at the Indian Wells Masters in what was his maiden final at an ATP 1000 tournament.

The 29-year-old is yet to win in Montpellier. He made his first main draw appearance in 2015 after qualifying for the event, but was sent packing by Benoit Paire in the first round. The three-set defeat was followed by another three-set first-round loss the following year, this time to another Frenchman Kenny De Schepper. Last year, the Georgian lost to another Frenchman Gregoire Barrere, this time in straight sets.

While he tasted a fair amount of success last year, he also suffered a lot of disappointments, losing the first match of a tournament on 15 occasions. A 33-27 season is a clear indication of the five-time ATP winners struggles with consistency.

Can he end his losing streak on Wednesday?

Dzumhur Marches On

Qualifier Damir Dzumhur continued his march forward in the tournament as he eliminated Slovakia’s Alex Molcan in the first round on Tuesday.

Ranked No. 152 in the world, the Bosnia and Herzegovina player needed an hour and 24 minutes to beat Molcan 7-6 (7-5), 6-0. Dzumhur saved two of three break points and converted four of six to win his first main draw match of the season.

A three-time tour-level winner from four finals, Dzumhur had made the Australian Open made draw as a lucky loser but fell in the first round to Pablo Andújar.

Dzumhur had qualified for the main draw at Montpellier with straight sets wins over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs and Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the qualifying rounds.

The 29-year-old was a quarterfinalist at Montpellier in 2018, but fell in the first round in 2020 and in the first qualifying round in 2021.

Basilashvili v Dzumhur Prediction and Tip

Although Basilashvili is 0-4 in 2022 and 0-3 in Montpellier, he will be the favourite against Dzumhur and should ease into the last eight.
