Diego Schwartzman v Juan Pablo Ficovich Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Schwartzman Starts with a Bye

World No. 14 Diego Schwartzman will tap into his love for the clay courts here at home in Argentina. The top seed has a good track record in Cordoba, reaching the quarterfinal twice and settling for the runner-up trophy in the 2020 edition.

In all three instances, including the ongoing edition, the Argentinean has started with a bye into the second round.

His start to the 2022 season has been rather bleak but with the action now switched to clay, we can expect him to deliver better results. His tally at the moment stands at 3-2; in the Australian Open, he was beaten in round two by Christopher O’Connell while in the ATP Cup, he won two of three robin round fixtures.

Schwartzman is undoubtedly one of the strongest players in the field in Cordoba and his path to the semifinal is effectively easy. Last year, he won the Argentina Open in March and there is no reason why cannot emulate the same run here.

Ficovich Survives Coria

Juan Pablo Ficovich started his campaign in the competition with a 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Federico Coria in the first round. He needed an hour and 45 minutes to see himself through with a 74% first service win rate.

The 25-year-old, who is currently ranked World No. 230, started in Cordoba as a wildcard in the qualifiers. He beat the likes of Dmitry Popko and Nikola Milojevic to reach the main draw – a first such feat for the Argentinean this season.

His previous stints of the year came in a couple of Challenger events where he fell in the opening rounds. Ficovich also participated in the Australian Open where he was beaten by Salvatore Caruso in the qualifiers.

Looking at his overall track record, Ficovich has spent a majority of his previous seasons playing in low-tier events. On the Challenger circuit alone, he has reached just three finals while the rest of his commendable feats have come in Futures and World Tennis Tour events.

Schwartzman v Ficovich Prediction and Tip

Ficovich lacks main tour experience while Schwartzman is pretty much an expert when it comes to that, especially being a top 20 player. This match should end in a comfortable win for the number one seed.
