Spain’s Jaume Munar is off to a great start in the Cordoba Open, defeating France’s Benoit Paire in straight sets with 6-4, 7-5. With the number seven seed now out of the way, his next real threat will come in the form of the top seed Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinal.
But before that, the 24-year-old must navigate his bout with Galan – something that shouldn’t prove to be an impossible task. Munar is quickly leaving his mark on the tour and by the looks of it, he has a lot of potential.
Last season, he made it to the final of four Challenger events, going the distance in one of them. In addition to this, the Spaniard also reached the quarterfinal in ATP Buenos Aires, the final in Marbella, and the semifinal in the Parma Open.
This year, he was a quarterfinalist in ATP 250 Melbourne along with reaching the second round in ATP Adelaide 2. The World No. 88 was also involved in a gruelling five-setter in the Australian Open, losing to Aslan Karatsev in the opener.

Galan Moves Past Dellien
Daniel Elahi Galan started in the competition as a qualifier but lost to Nicolas Jarry in the final qualifying round. However, by the virtue of the lucky loser rule, he got a ticket to the main draw and made the most of that chance.
In the first round, he overcame Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien with 7-5, 6-3 to set up the toughest match of the season yet.
So far, the 25-year-old is yet to impress on the ATP Tour although, he has already won a Challenger event in Concepcion. In other big events, the current World No. 127 has succumbed in the qualifying rounds.
Compared to Munar, Galan lacks the form and momentum but he does have all the makings of being an underdog.

Munar may be challenged here but it is quite unlikely for him to incur a loss. Expect the Spaniard to keep on marching in Cordoba.
