Stefanos Tsitsipas v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

Tsitsipas won their only meeting in Monte Carlos last year. The Greek was a set up when the Spaniard retired from that contest.

Tsitsipas Aiming for Maiden Title in Rotterdam

A semifinalist last year, Stefanos Tsitsipas comes into the tournament as the top seed. The Greek is coming off a decent showing at the Australian Open, however he will be disappointed not to have made the final in the opening slam after he went down to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals for the second consecutive year.

Medvedev won’t be in Rotterdam though. The Russian pulled out of the tournament following his long run at the Australian Open, which makes Tsitsipas the favourite, but the World No. 4 will be wary of another Russian — the second seed Andrey Rublev.

Ranked No. 7 in the world, Rublev is the defending champion and it was the 24-year-old who knocked out Tsitsipas in straight sets in the semifinals last year. This year they won’t meet until the final.

Overall Tsitsipas is 4-4 in Rotterdam and is 6-2 in 2022. Having suffered an elbow injury towards the end of a 55-19 season last year, Tsitsipas underwent an elbow surgery in the off season.

He returned to action at the ATP Cup but his match against Nikoloz Basilashvili lasted just five games after the Georgian retired. In his next match, the Greek suffered a three-set defeat to Diego Schwartzman, but he found his feet at the Australian Open and got better with every match with his best coming in the quarterfinals against Jannik Sinner.

The seven-time tour-level champion will have his eyes fixed on a maiden title in Rotterdam.

Davidovich Fokina Yet to Make a Mark in 2022

World no. 47 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was pretty good during a 27-23 season last year, but he looked more at home on clay than on hard courts.

This year, the 22-year-old is yet to make a mark and brings a 1-3 record to Rotterdam.

He was knocked out by Dusan Lajovic in the first round of the Sydney International before getting his first win of the season at the Australian Open, where he beat Alex Bolt in the first round. Felix Auger-Aliassime stopped his progress in Melbourne with a tough four-set win in the second round, which needed a tiebreak in each set.

The Spaniard next featured in Montpellier and suffered another first-round defeat, going down to France’s Adrian Mannarino in straight sets.

A quarterfinalist at Roland Garros last year, Davidovich Fokina also made his debut in Rotterdam in 2021. He stunned Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round, but fell to eventual finalist Marton Fucsovics in the second round. How far can he go this season?

Tsitsipas v Davidovich Fokina Prediction and Tip
