Kevin Anderson v Sam Querrey Head to Head

The pair have a long standing rivalry stretching back fourteen years to their first meeting in Las Vegas in 2008. That has seen the pair meet sixteen times and each man has won eight times.

Their last match was the New York final in 2018, Anderson winning on that occasion.

Anderson Still Trying to Reach Former Levels

Anderson is still trying to rediscover the former levels that twice saw him make Grand Slam finals, and reach as high as five in the world rankings.

But a series of injuries then took its toll, and the last three years have seen him spend more time on the treatment table than on the court.

However, he likes playing in the US, which is his adopted home, and, in a rare highlight in what was otherwise a disappointing 2021 season, he did win the Hall of Fame championship on the grass of Newport Beach, his seventh senior career title.

2022 has been disappointing so far. He lost both his matches in Australia, beaten in the opening round of the Melbourne Summer Set by Jaume Munar of Spain and then in the first round of the Australian Open by the American, Reilly Opelka.

He has yet to win a set of competitive tennis this year.

Querrey on Long Losing Streak

Querrey is on a similar career trajectory to Anderson, in that he was once ranked as high as eleven in the world, but has now dropped outside the world’s top 100.

He has lost his last eight matches on tour in a run that stretches back to the second round of Wimbledon last year, although he only played once in Australia, beaten in the fist round of the Australian Open by the Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, the world number 23, losing in three sets.

However, if he is looking for comfort anywhere, it might be that he did reach his first final in two years last year on the grass of Mallorca, and it took the world number two, Daniil Medvedev, to deny him.

It has been more than four years since his last tournament win, in Los Cabos, Mexico, in August 2017.

Anderson v Querrey Prediction and Tip

This is a match between two men renowned for their big serving, both of whom are out of form. Given, though, that Anderson has a more recent memory of what it feels like to win a match, he will start the clear favourite.
