Brandon Nakashima v John Millman Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 20-year old American, and the Australian, who is 12 years older.

Nakashima Back in Familiar Surroundings

Nakashima is still in the infancy of his senior career, having played college tennis before turning pro.

Despite him being a comparative late starter, 2021 was a breakthrough year for him, reaching two successive finals in July, finishing runner-up to Cameron Norrie in Los Cabos and to John Isner in Atlanta.

Two wins on the Challenger tour as well helped him reach the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan in November, where he got to the semi-finals.

He had mixed fortunes in Australia. In Sydney, he reached the quarter-finals, beating Fabio Fognini along the way, before losing to Reilly Opelka.

The American made the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time, and, although he was beaten by the world number six, Matteo Berettini, he did take the first set off the Italian.

Although that was valuable experience, he will be glad to be back in familiar surroundings again.

Millman Trying to Find Winning Formula Again

When Millman won his first senior career title at the Astana Open in November 2020 after many years on tour, he would have been hoping that would have been the springboard for further success.

However, last year was something of a disappointment for the Australian, although he did make four quarter-finals – in Munich, Washington, Sofia, and back in Nur-Sultan.

And he also represented Australia in the Olympics, losing in the second round.

He lost his opening two matches of this season – beaten by compatriot Thanasi kokkinakis in Adelaide, and then by Jaume Munar of Spain the following week.

A win over the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez in four sets in the first round of the Australian helped stop the rot, but then he was well beaten by Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the second round.

Nakashima v Millman Prediction and Tip

Based on recent form and the fact that Nakashima likes playing on American hard courts, he should have the edge in this contest.
