Petra Martic v Kamilla Rakhimova Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Rakhimova, Keen to Leave a Mark

20-year-old Kamilla Rakhimova is set to compete in her third tournament of the season and so far, she has been nothing short of promising and brilliant.

In Melbourne Set 2, she started as a qualifier and made it as far as the quarterfinal before losing to Ann Li. In the Australian Open, she succumbed in the final qualifying round to Rebecca Marino but did come closer to a top 100 debut.

Last year, the youngster took the tour by surprise when she reached the third round at the US Open as a qualifier before losing to Barbora Krejcikova. Rakhimova also made it as far as the second round in the Serbia Open and St. Petersburg trophy – again starting from the qualifiers. In addition, the World No. 104 was the runner-up in Bastad 125K and Zagreb Challenger.

She also gained a fair bit of exposure on the doubles circuit by winning two titles and reaching the final in another. She may lack the experience but makes up for it with hard work and exceptional skills.

Martic Hoping to Shake her Recent Rut

Just two years ago, Petra Martic was close to making a top 10 debut. Now, it seems like a distant dream as the veteran Croat has slipped to the #70 spot after a harrowing spell last season.

The 31-year-old has lost in the first round in six of her last eight tournaments on the WTA Tour, three of which are consecutive. Martic fell to Maryna Zanevska in Melbourne 1 and Jil Teichmann in the Australian Open.

Most of her previous year is dotted with such disappointing performances, barring a handful of tournaments where she managed to impress. In the Phillip Island Trophy and WTA Parma, she reached the quarterfinal while in the Italian Open, she was a semifinalist.

Martic hasn’t reached a singles final on the tour since 2019 and if she wants to end that rut anytime soon, she will need to snap out of her funk. Luckily, the match against the inexperienced Rakhimova gives her that opportunity but it won’t be easy.

Martic v Rakhimova Prediction and Tip

This match can just as easily swing either way, more so in the favour of Rakhimova since she has the home advantage and is coming off with a fair bit of momentum.

But Martic is experienced and has played at the top level for quite some time. She will put up a fight and may likely take this match to three sets.
