Jelena Ostapenko v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

At the moment, the head to head tally is tied at 2-2. Petkovic has won their last two encounters although, their most recent meeting in the 2021 WTA Moscow ended with Ostapenko retiring in the third set.

Ostapenko Storms Past Wang

Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko made quick work of the Chinese teenage prodigy Xinyu Wang in the WTA St. Petersburg opener.

Needing just 63 minutes, the Latvian outperformed Wang with 6-1, 6-4. She won 70% of the points on the first serve and saved an impressive four out of five breakpoints.

Following the withdrawal of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova from the competition, Ostapenko’s prospects of reaching the semifinal are looking fairly good. Going by her recent form, she is well-positioned to deliver a deep run.

She arrived in Russia following a third-round exit to Barbora Krejcikova in the Australian Open. In WTA 500 Sydney, however, she succumbed to the in-form Spaniard Paula Badosa in the first round.

Last season, the 25th ranked Ostapenko was a semifinalist in the Indian Wells Open, runner-up in Luxembourg, and the champion at the Eastbourne International.

Petkovic Beats Peterson

Andrea Petkovic is off to a good start in the competition as she defeated the Swedish qualifier, Rebecca Peterson, 7-6(5), 6-2.

She is 2-2 so far this season with both those losses coming at hands of the top 10 players like Barbora Krejcikova and Naomi Osaka.

Last season, the 34-year-old German delivered a remarkable comeback on the WTA Tour. After battling with form woes over the last few years, Petkovic finally rediscovered her groove and won her first singles title since 2015.

She won the trophy in Cluj-Napoca – a feat that was preceded by her runner-up glory in the Hamburg Open. On the back of these results, she moved back into the top 100 and is currently the World No. 65.

Ostapenko v Petkovic Prediction and Tip

Petkovic is far more experienced than Ostapenko and clearly has the skills needed to overcome her. She is also in decent form but then again, so is her opponent. This fixture is evenly matched and we may very well see a long affair.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
