John Isner v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

The pair have met each six times before, and Isner leads their head to head series by four wins to two.

Pospisil won their first match in Valencia in 2011, whilst their two meetings in 2013 finished one apiece. However, the American has won their three subsequent matches, the most recent of which was in Atlanta in 2017.

Isner Triumphs in Service Battle

Isner came into Dallas still searching for his best form, having won just one out of his three ATP Cup matches he played in Australia, and been beaten there in the first round in both Adelaide and the Australian Open.

Given a first round bye, his second round opponent was the South African Kevin Anderson, in what was billed as the battle of the big servers.

It did not disappoint, with the pair producing 56 aces between them. There was only one break point created all match, and that was in the first set and was saved by Anderson.

Instead, it took three tie breaks to separate them.

Isner won the first and Anderson the second, meaning it was all on the outcome of the third.

Anderson was the first to go a mini-break down, recovered that, but then dropped his serve once more, and Isner held two match points, The South African saved the first, but not the second.

Qualifier Pospisil Saves Match Point

Pospisil was once ranked as high a s25 in the world, but his form has dipped since then.

However, he began the New Year in encouraging fashion by winning a Challenger event in France two weeks ago, and then travelled to Dallas where he came through two rounds of qualifying to make the first round.

The draw was kind to him them pitting him against the American wildcard Caleb Chakravarthi, and he trounced him in straight sets, dropping just one game.

There he met another qualifier, Jurij Rodionov of Austria, and the pair enjoyed a tense tussle for the first two sets.

Rodionov took the first set on a tie break, and had a match point in the second. The Canadian, though, saved it, and it was his turn to win the resultant tie-break.

And then he got the all-important break early in the third set, which he consolidated with another to finally claim the victory.

Isner v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Although the two have not met for nearly five years, recent results before that suggest Isner starts clear favourite and, if he serves as well as he did against Anderson, Pospisil might find it hard to live with him.
