Maria Sakkari v Irina-Camelia Begu Head to Head

The tally is tied at 1-1 with Sakkri winning their last meeting in the 2018 Seoul Open.

Sakkari in a Scintillating Form

Maria Sakkari hasn’t dropped a set so far in the St. Petersburg Open as she marches on imperiously to her fourth singles final on the WTA Tour.

In her wake, she has left the likes of Anastasia Potapova, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and the doubles specialist Elise Mertens (winning with 7-6(7), 6-2). This run follows her fourth-round exit in the Australian Open last month at the hands of Jessica Pegula.

Nonetheless, she is already 7-2 for the season so far and looks absolutely unstoppable.

Last season, Sakkari couldn’t quite win a title as her sole silverware came in the Ostrava Open final. The top seed, however, did reach the semifinal in Paris and New York majors, Miami Open, and the WTA Finals.

With a firm grip in the top 10 as the #7, the 26-year-old looks determined to add some winner’s trophies to her collection.

Begu Stuns Martincova

Irina-Camelia Begu has played some of the best tennis of her career this past week.

She has won all of her three matches rather convincingly in straight sets, losing just 14 games in total. This also includes a single bagel she served to Petra Kvitova with 6-4, 6-0.

In the quarterfinal, the Romanian made quick work of Tereza Martincova as she dispatched her 6-4, 6-2, in 87 minutes. She saved four breakpoints and won a total of five games consecutively. With these results, her tally has improved to 6-2 for the season.

Last year, Begu reached her first singles final in over 4 years but apart from that, she had a largely inconsistent season. The World No. 56 also mid-rounds in a couple of big events but couldn’t make much of them.

Sakkari v Begu Prediction and Tip

Begu is in a good form and as we have seen so often in the past, underdogs can cause all sorts of upset when they are at their best. Lucky for Sakkari, she is well-matched for the challenge and may possibly find herself in a demanding game.

Ultimately, she should make it to the finals as she has consistency and a superior track record on her side.
