Anett Kontaveit v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Kontaveit holds a 2-1 lead over Ostapenko although, she lost their last meeting in the 2021 Eastbourne International final.

Kontaveit Makes it 7-2

World No. 9 Anett Kontaveit is marching imperiously towards her 14th WTA final – seven of which came last year. The Estonian broke personal records and moved up significantly in the ranking with a tally of 48-17.

She started the 2022 season on the same note and so far, has hardly shown any signs of slowing down.

Kontaveit featured in Sydney Classic where she was a semifinalist. She also played in the Australian Open but was stunned by Clara Tauson in the second round.

Here in St. Petersburg, the 26-year-old has moved past Jil Teichmann, Sorana Cirstea, and Belinda Bencic to reach the semis. The number two seed overcame the reigning Olympic champion with 7-6(7), 6-2. While she struggled a bit in the first set, she shifted gears in the second and saw herself through to the victory.

Ostapenko takes down Sasnovich

Jelena Ostapenko defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich with 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3 in two and a half hours to deliver her best results in the tournament.

After overcoming the likes of Xinyu Wang and Andrea Petkovic in straight sets, the Latvian fumbled a bit against Sasnovich but her superior pedigree ultimately helped her prevail.

Ostapenko arrived in Russia with a ranking of World No. 25 and early-round defeats to Barbora Krejcikova and Paula Badosa in Melbourne and Sydney. Last year, however, the 24-year-old made it to two finals – Eastbourne and Luxembourg – to mark one of the best years on the tour since her French Open winning run in 2017.

She was also a semifinalist in the Indian Wells Open and has a healthy track record of beating the top 10 players in her career.

Kontaveit v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

This should be an entertaining game. Kontaveit will start as the heavy favourite but Ostrapenko is someone who can trouble the Estonian; she did so successfully in their last meeting.

However, her prospects of getting through are not as great as Kontaveit’s – thus making the second seed a safer bet. She is on fire on the indoor courts and is 18-0 currently. With this kind of record on the surface, it will be hard for anyone to stop her.

Tip: Kontaveit to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
