Sofia Kenin v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two with Kenin getting the last laugh in the 2021 French Open.

Kenin, Battling Serious Form Issues

Just two years ago, Sofia Kenin was crowned as the Australian Open champion and soon became the World No. 4. Fast forward to now, she is placed #90 in the rankings and a lack of results can potentially take her out of the top 100.

The 23-year-old has been out of form and sorts for the better part of the last year. After failing to defend her title in Melbourne, she simply sauntered through the rest of the big events without a lot to show for. Her best performance was the fourth-round appearance in the Paris Slam.

Shortly afterwards at Wimbledon, Kenin crashed out in round two against Madison Brengle – committing 41 unforced errors in 45 minutes. That prompted the two-time major finalist to take the rest of the season off.

Kenin started 2022 with a quarterfinal run in Adelaide but lost in the first round in Sydney and the Australian Open. Those losses came at the hands of Daria Kasatkina and Madison Keys – much to the chagrin of the American.

Ostapenko on a Red Hot Run

Former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko arrived in Dubai following a superb week in St. Petersburg.

The Latvian reached the semifinal there before losing to Anett Kontaveit. That was her third top 10 defeat of the season, with the other two coming against Barbora Krejcikova in Melbourne and Paula Badosa in Sydney. Had it not been for these defeats, one can imagine that Ostapenko, given her recent resurgence, can very well deliver a title run.

Last year, the World No. 21 won Eastbourne International and made it to the final in Luxembourg and the semis in the Indian Wells Open (defeating Iga Swiatek en route).

Having stayed out of the spotlight for the last couple of years, it seems that Ostapenko is getting ready to reclaim her former glory.

Ostapenko v Kenin Prediction and Tip

While Kenin is capable of easily dispatching Ostapenko, it looks quite unlikely to happen right now. She is out of form, low on momentum, and is possibly not that confident. Ostapenko, meanwhile, is playing some superb tennis and seems unstoppable – at least against the lower-ranked players. This one should be easy to call.
