Hugo Gaston v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, in a junior event in France five years ago, Moutet winning in straight sets.

Gaston Short of Confidence

Gaston made a breakthrough last year, reaching his first senior ATP final at the Swiss Open before losing to Casper Ruud, and he ended the year strongly, beating the likes of Pablo Carreno-Busta and Carlos Alcaraz on the main tour, and holding set points against Daniil Medvedev at the Paris Masters.

He also featured in the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan.

Unfortunately, the winter break, rather than helping to re-charge his batteries, seems to have drained them instead.

He lost both his matches in Australia, beaten in the first round in Sydney and the Australian Open, and flew home to Montpellier only to lose in the first round there as well.

He did finally get off the mark for the year by winning his first round qualifying match in Rotterdam, but then was beaten by the Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

Gaston was given a second bite of the cherry when he earned a place in the main draw in Rotterdam as a lucky loser, but lost again, this time to Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea.

Moutet Yet to Bring Australian Form With Him

Unlike Gaston, Moutet struggled with his form last year, but he can draw heart from his results in Australia, reaching the second round in Adelaide first time round, and then, the following week, after coming through qualifying, he reached the semi-final stage, beating the likes of Jan-Lennard Struff and Marton Fucsovics along the way, before losing to compatriot Arthur Rindrknech.

He then reached the second round of the Australian Open, where he led his match with the American Sebastian Korda, before losing in five sets.

Things have not gone so well back in Europe. He was beaten in the first round in Montpellier, and in the second round of qualifying in Rotterdam.

He has never played in this tournament before.

Gaston v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Although Herbert is the higher ranked  player, he sems bereft of confidence at the moment. Moutet has yet to convert his Australian form to Europe, but this seems like a good opportunity for him to get back to winning ways again.

Tip: Moutet to win: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
