Elina Svitolina v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
Svitolina and Teichmann played against each other twice before. The first match was played in 2020 and Svitolina won that match with the 2nd coming last year in Madrid with Teichmann winning that one. Both were played on clay.

Elina Svitolina is not enjoying her tennis so far this year. The Ukrainian enters this contest with a 3-3 record having arrived in Dubai with a negative record on the season. Her only wins this year came against Fiona Ferro, Harmony Tan and Mayar Sherif. It’s hardly an inspiring list yet her performance in the first round of the Dubai event was fairly good.
Svitolian did not have a good event last year here but perhaps the win over Sherif will boost her confidence allowing her to start believing in herself and playing better. It’s very much needed for a player whose peak level is close to the best in the world.
The conditions don’t really fit her style and playing against Teichmann will be very tricky but a win over the Swiss player could be the start of a solid run from Svitolina. Her serve will be key as she will not want Teichmann to assert her aggressive style.

Teichmann Eyeing Deep Run in Dubai
Jil Teichmann arrived in Dubai with a negative record on the season 3-4 but scored a huge win in the first round over the favoured Elise Mertens. It demonstrated how well the conditions in Dubai fit Teichmann and her style of play. The Swiss’s enjoys attacking with her forehand and she will have plenty of opportunities here if she can return balls well.
The Swiss player announced herself to the wider tennis audience with a deep run at the Cincinnati Masters but lost to Ashleigh Barty. Since then she never followed up with a huge result but Svitolina present a perfect opportunity for the Swiss who should have a lot of time to set up for her shots.
Svitolina enjoys counter punching but that might be a bad idea against Teichmann as the Swiss proved that last year by beating Svitolina on clay in Madrid. The conditions in both events allow for aggressive play and Svitolina does not deal well with that.
Svitolina v Teichmann Prediction and Tip
As noted above the matchup is levelled at 1-1 but the playstyle allows Teichmann to have the upper hand in certain conditions. Dubai is one of those places and that is why Teichmann could be considered the favourite. Neither are in particularly great form so it will come down to who plays better but Svitolina could be in a lot of trouble here.
If Teichmann is given enough time to set up her forehand she can destroy Svitolina but a lot will depend on whether she actually hits more than she misses. Against Mertens, she showed a solid level but barely escaped with the 2nd set despite being up a break.
Such things could come to bite her against Svitolina who is much more consistent than Mertens. Either way, I do expect a close match with 3 sets but I do gravitate to Mertens having more. She plays more aggressively and Dubai rewards aggressive play.
