Grigor Dimitrov v John Millman Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, in Brisbane in 2018 and 2019, Dimitrov winning both times in straight sets.

Dimitrov Bouncing Back After Covid

Dimitrov has bounced back after he was forced to miss last week’s event in Dallas after he contracted Covid.

Now he is eyeing his second semi-final of the season, having already reached that stage at the Australian Open warm-up event, the Melbourne Summer Set.

Given a bye in the first round, the draw was then kind to him as it paired him up with the American qualifier, Mitchell Krueger, the world number 164.

Not that there are many easy matches on the ATP Tour as the Bulgarian found out in the first set.

Although he broke the American early, Krueger hit back to level straight away and Dimitrov had to save four further break points before it went to a tie-break.

However, then his greater experience showed and he won it comfortably.

Again, the pair swapped breaks in the second set, but, this time, Dimitrov immediately restored his advantage. And he clinched the match when Krueger was broken once more serving to stay in the contest.

Millman Finding Some Overdue Form

Millman’s recent record in Delray Beach is poor, having lost in the first round here in the previous three years.

And he did not come into the tournament in the best of form either, not having won two consecutive main draw matches since last October.

He will, therefore, take great heart after reaching his first quarter-final of the season, coming from a set down to beat Maxime Cressey in the first round, and then beating Marcos Giron, a semi-finalist in Dallas last week.

The Australian began strongly racing into a four-love first set lead with two service breaks under his belt. Giron recovered one of them, but could not narrow the deficit further, and the first set belonged to Millman.

Serve dominated the second set to the extent that not a single break point was created by either man.

In the tie-break that ensued, Giron had three set points, could not convert any of them, and, when a match point fell the way of the Australian, he duly took it.

Dimitrov v Millman Prediction and Tip

Although Millman will be glad to have found some form, Dimitrov has won both of their two previous meetings, and is tipped to extend that sequence.
