Miomir Kecmanovic v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

Kecmanovic and Cecchinato never played against each other.

Kecmanovic’s Drastic Improvement in 2022

Miomir Kecmanovic had a very poor 2021 season with the Serbian not doing anything of note. He finished off the year at the Davis Cup finals where he lost every match he played but something clicked in 2022. The Serbian currently sits with 9 wins and four defeats this year and his play over the course of the golden slam has been very good.

Both in Buenos Aires and in Rio, Kecmanovic played rather well but both times he ran into Franciso Cerundolo and the Argentinian was too strong on clay for him. Both of these matches were close and in both he could have won but ultimately they were a great lesson for him.

The draw was favourable for him in Santiago. He is playing Cecchinato who is a clay court expert but the Italian lost all three matches he played this year. He is far removed from any kind of form and it’s a very measured approach for Kecmanovic who should have no issues.

Cecchinato Searching for First Win in 2022

Marco Cecchinato once played in the Roland Garros semifinals but the Italian is far removed from that level. He is also far removed from any kind of form as he lost all three matches he played this year. Not even the switch to his preferred clay changed much for him.

In Buenos Aires, it was Dmitry Popko (ranked 180th) who defeated him easily in straight sets while in Rio de Janeiro it was the native Matheus Pucinelli De Almeida (ranked 278th) who won in three sets. Those are terrible results for Cecchinato who should have a better level on clay.

It’s highly unlikely he will fare much better against Kecmanovic who has been very during this golden slam stretch. Cecchinato will get that elusive first win over the season sometime but getting it against Kecmanovic would be quite an upset considering the circumstances.

Kecmanovic v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

Everything is pretty clear in this matchup despite the players never playing against each other. Both of these players can play well on clay yet one is in rather good form while the other has no form whatsoever. Cecchinato has not won a match since October of last year and that win was against a player ranked outside of the top 200.

Since then he has only played 3 matches but he lost all of them. Kecmanovic on the other hand has 9 wins on the year with the majority coming on clay and against strong opposition. A recent win over Sonego should boost his confidence despite two close losses to Cerundolo in the past two weeks.

I don’t see a way Cecchinato can really trouble Kecmanovic. Sure, there is always a chance of a vintage performance and win for the Italian but there are just so many things that are on the side of the Serbian. Take him and don’t stress about the outcome.

Tip: Kecmanovic to win in straight sets: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
