While Carreno Busta has had a solid start to the season on the hard courts of the ATP Cup and Australian Open, a surprise halt at Rio last week led to a shock result.
The Spaniard, who was 2/5 odds to win his second round match against Fabio Fognini following an opening bye, blew up a first set win to go down in three.
What he would like to do is to reset his mind back to how he had gone about his business in the two tournaments before that. At the ATP Cup, he won four of his five singles matches before losing to Denis Shapovalov in the final while at the season’s first major, Carreno Busta made it to the fourth round before going down to Matteo Berrettini.
He shouldn’t have too many difficulties against Otte here but a solid showing here should make for a good start for the rest of this competitive tournament.

Otte Scrapes Through to the Main Draw
He is 28 years of age but Otte is slowly finding some of his best tennis that has taken him to 82nd in the world – his career-best ranking. While that might not be enough to challenge a player of the pedigree of his first round opponent, Otte will take some confidence from his qualifying wins.
Starting out as a favourite at both, Otte first defeated Emilio Gomez in his opening qualifier before needing a three-setter against Stefan Kozlov to make the main draw.
This was after he had fallen in the qualifiers of both the tournaments in Adelaide earlier this year and lost in the first round of Dallas Open.
His only two main draw victories came in the main draw of Australian Open and Delray Beach, but it could be a different kettle of fish against Carreno Busta.

It’s not been the easiest times for Otte this season and Carreno Busta should have no difficulties getting through this one in straight sets.
