Roberto Bautista-Agut v Jiri Vesely Head to Head

The pair have played each other four times before, and Bautista-Agut has won each time.

Two of those two meetings came in 2016 in Auckland and Rotterdam, the latter match the only time Vesely has even won a set off the Spaniard.

They met at Roland Garros in 2017, and again in Auckland the following year.

Doha Winner Bautista-Agut

Batuista-Agut had gone three years without lifting a trophy since winning the Qatar Open back in 2019. However, he put an end to that frustrating wait back in Doha again last week, with a run that including the demolition of Andy Murray for the loss of just one game, and a straight sets defeat of Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the final.

Any fears that he might suffer a hangover from that victory were quickly allayed in his first round match with Arthur Rinderknech of France, the world number 53, on Tuesday.

Batuista-Agut began strongly, breaking Rinderknech in his opening service game. And he was able to consolidate that to take the first set.

And then another break of serve at the start of the second set put the Spaniard right in control of proceedings. After that all the Spaniard had to do was hold serve and the match was his.

Czech Qualifier Vesely Upsets Cilic

Vesely has won two senior career titles and been ranked as  high as 35 in the world, but it is a measure how far his stock has dipped recently that he has now dropped out of the top 100, and forced to qualify for events like Dubai.

That he managed to do by beating Hady Habib of Lebanon and then Alexei Popyrin of Australia, both in straight sets,  but he appeared to have his work cut out to beat Marin Cilic of Croatia, the world number 24, who, last month, reached the fourth round of the Australian Open.

But, in a turn up for the books, Vesely got an early break and held on to it to claim the first set.

Cilic dropped his serve at the start of the second set, and then both men faced, and saved, a number of break points. Vesely had three match points at one stage, saw all of them saved and, when given the chance to serve for the match, blew the opportunity , and Cilic broke back.

Three more match points arrived in the subsequent tie-break and, this time, the Czech made no mistake.

Bautista-Agut v Vesely Prediction and Tip

Bautista-Agut is in in fine form, having just won in Doha, and having seen off Vesely in their four previous meetings, there is little to suggest that the Czech can do anything to improve on that record.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
