Sebastian Baez v Juan Ignacio Londero Head to Head

They played once before and it came last year in Buenos Aires with Baez proving better 6-3 6-4.

Baez Moving Up the Charts

Sebastian Baez is slowly moving up in the tennis hierarchy with solid play week after week. Last year he competed at the 2021 Next Gen Finals showcasing himself as a promising young player. Now, in 2022, the Argentine is establishing himself as a very respectable ATP tour player.

Baez has a solid 11-7 on the year with the majority of those wins coming on clay. Beating him on the surface is quite hard as he moves really well and tends to play very aggressive. At times he tends to overhit but he will become better at that with more experience.

He defeated Juan Pablo Varillas in the first round of this event and that was a very solid showing from Baez who can be a tricky opponent in these conditions. His attacking play keeps him on the initiative against most players and he can keep his consistency high, he will move up quickly on the rankings.

Getting Back to Form for Londero

Juan Ignacio Londero was once a top 50 player yet the pandemic completely derailed his career. In 2022 he has found some of his earlier form, especially on clay where he played very well overall. He has an 8-3 record on the year and generally played very well.

He lost to Albert Ramos in Rio, to Pablo Andujar in Buenos Aires and for the most part, he was competitive in both matches. In Santiago, he was paired up with Thomas Martin Etcheverry and he passed that test as well albeit needing to go the distance.

It will be a very good matchup against Baez as both are capable clay players. Who plays more consistently will win the match but the matchup generally should favour Baez more.

Baez v Londero Prediction and Tip

Their only previous match was won by Baez and it came last year in Buenos Aires. The courts in Santiago are a bit faster than in Buenos Aires due to the elevation and that allows for more aggresive play. Baez is the more aggressive player out of the two and the conditions should favour him.

He won comfortably in Buenos Aires last year but that version of Londero was a very bleak one compared to this one. Since then he has become a much beter player thanks to getting some of his confidence back. Baez has also improved in the past year so I think the players are very similar level-wise at the moment.

I do think the conditions will enable Baez to play his game a bit more and that should make him the favourite. I don’t think it will come easy and Londero might win a set but I do think that Baez will ultimately prevail. Take the younger Argentine.

Tip: Baez to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
