Facundo Bagnis v Hugo Dellien Head to Head

These two tennis players have played six times against each other with both winning 3 of those. Dellien technically won that match but actually the Argentine retired due to an injury.

Bagnis Failing to Replicate 2021

Facundo Bagnis had a great 2021 year posting a 38-23 record on the year which is the best mark he has ever posted. The Argentine played well on clay and on hard courts even getting a solid result for his nation at the Tokyo Olympics. So far in 2022, it’s been less than ideal. He has only two wins along with six defeats so far and the clay play has been abysmal.

His first victory came here in Santiago against Bernabe Zapata Mirallas who is not having a great year himself. The Spaniard also tends to self-destruct frequently and that win is not all that impressive. Either way, the conditions favour his play quite a bit and he should be favoured against Dellien.

The Bolivian is a solid clay player but hardly aggressive or attacking which is something Bagnis can exploit. Whether the Argentine finally finds some of the form from last year remains to be seen but he will have a decent chance against the Bolivian.

Dellien Showing Promise

Hugo Dellien was never ranked higher than the 72nd spot on the rankings but the Bolivian has a solid chance to do that this year. So far he has been playing okay tennis but the result have been pretty good. He has a 10-5 record on the year with all matches coming on clay and one should expect him to continue playing clay events.

His game is solid enough on that surface but away from the surface, the Bolivian will really struggle with his lack of weapons. He isn’t particularly great from either the backhand or forehand and doesn’t have a strong serve but he is willing to run and compete.

On clay that will give you a chance and so far he has beaten worse than himself. Bagnis is a better player and has more weapons so it will be a proper test for him. Can he it, find out below.

Bagnis v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Calling this matchup is really hard simply because neither player is particularly convincing at the moment. Dellien, for the most part, is having a much better year yet his tennis is nothing special and if Bagnis plays the way he can he will certainly win this without any trouble.

The problem so far has been that the Argentine rarely played his best. Not even in the first round was his tennis the best he can do but it was better than usual. Can he do that? I think he can and I think he will. There is a chance he doesn’t and Dellien might win the match but the conditions favoured Bagnis much more.

Dellien is a very passive player and it presented a perfect opportunity for Bagnis to find some form and rhythm. It’s that we see his best again and I think he will. Once again, it could go either way but if you’re feeling adventurous, back the Argentine.
