Sabalenka Outplays Cornet

World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka had no issues with her serve as she raced past Alize Cornet in the second round of the Doha Open on Tuesday.

The top seed, who received a first-round bye, needed just an hour and 15 minutes to dispatch the Frenchwoman 6-2, 6-2. The Belarusian didn’t face a single break point in the match and converted half of the eight that she held.

Sabalenka, who double faulted 110 times in her first eight matches of the season, didn’t have any issues with her serve in his first match in Doha. She double faulted just four times, got 29 of 48 first serves right and won 24 points on the back of first delivery.

In all, the 23-year-old seemed to have found her rhythm back as she improved to 5-4 this season.

A 10-time tour-level champion, Sabalenka is looking to win a second title in Doha. She had beaten Petra Kvitova for the title in 2020. Last year, she was knocked out by Garbine Muguruza in the Round of 16.

Teichmann Wins Another Tough Contest

A day after overturning a one-set deficit to knock out the 13th seed Angelique Kerber, Jil Teichmann was involved in another two-hour-plus contest on Tuesday before edging past Belgium’s  Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round.

After both players held serve in the first three games of the first set, there were six consecutive breaks of serve. Van Uytvanck finally ended the series of breaks to draw level at 5-5 and the set was eventually decided in the tiebreak, which had more drama in store. First it was Teichmann who seemed to be cruising after taking a 5-1 lead, but then she lost the next five points and allowed the Belgian a set point.

Teichmann saved the set point and then another, before converting a third set point of hers to take a one-set-to-love lead.

The second set saw Teichman break early in the third game, but Van Uytvanck sent the set back on serve in the eighth game. The Swiss had her nose in front again in the  11th game and she closed out the match in the next for a 7-6 (11-9), 7-5 win in two hours and 22 minutes. The left-hander had needed two hours and 10 minutes to defeat World No. 18 Kerber 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round.

With the win, the World No. 41 is now 6-5 from all competitions the season. She was a lucky loser in Dubai last week, yet she went on to reach the last eight, defeating Elise Mertens and Elina Svitolina en route. Can she produce a similar performance in Doha?

Sabalenka v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka seemed to have found her rhythm back. She will be wary of Teichmann’s ability to raise her level against good opponents, yet she should win the contest and advance to the quarterfinals for a meeting with either Iga Swiatek or Daria Kasatkina.

Tip: Sabalenka to win in straight sets: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
