Barbora Krejcikova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Krejcikova leads 2-0 on the tour, while they are 2-2 from all their meetings, including qualifiers and lower level tournaments.

Last year, the Czech defeated Ostapenko in Dubai and this year, she defeated her at the Australian Open.

Second seed Barbora Krejcikova blew away Poland’s Magda Linette in just 71 minutes to reach the third round of the Qatar Open.

The World No.3, who had never gone past the qualifiers in her previous three visits to Doha, notched her first win in the Qatari capital on Tuesday. Dominating from the start of the match, Krejcikova enjoyed three breaks of serve in the first set and one in the second to win the match 6-1, 6-4.

The win improved Krejcikova to 9-3 in 2022. The 26-year-old had begun the season by finishing runner-up in Sydney and then went on to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She had a disappointing run in Dubai last week, when she was knocked out of the Round of 16 by Dayana Yastremska.

Krejcoikova is coming off a a terrific 2021 season when she reached five finals and won three titles, including her first major at Roland Garros.

Red-Hot Ostapenko Extends Winning Run

No. 15 seed Jelena Ostapenko extended her winning streak to seven matches as she ousted the United States’ Amanda Anisimova in a three-set second round contest on Tuesday.

The 2017 French Open champion, who defeated Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in the Dubai Open final last week to pick her fifth tour-level title, needed an hour and 38 minutes to dispatch the World No. 40, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Both players held 11 break points in the match, with Ostapenko converting six of them and Anisimova capitalising on five of those chances.

The Latvian had begun the tournament by defeating France’s Océane Dodin 6-4, 6-2.

With the win, Ostapenko is now 12-3 in 2022. She had a slow start in Australia, but struck form in St. Petersburg, reaching the semifinals before going all the way to the title in Dubai.

A finalist at the Qatar Open in 2016, Ostapenko will look to extend her winning streak on Wednesday.
