World No. 5 Rafael Nadal extended his unbeaten run to 14 matches in 2022 as he marched into the finals of the Acupulco Open on Saturday.
The ATP 250 winner in Melbourne won a record 21st major title at the Australian Open and has followed that with another good run thus far this week as he eyes a 91st career ATP title.
Coming into the final four against new world number one Daniil Medvedev, it was a rematch of the epic Aussie Open final from last month.
While the scoreline reads a 6-3,6-3 win for the 21-time major title winner, the match was increasingly more competitive than what the score reads.
After a well controlled first set which Nadal won 6-3, it was a tighter second set where the Russian had 11 break points but the Spaniard dug deep when needed and held on.
Nadal continues his strong run for the season and has his eyes now on a third consecutive title in the first two months of 2022.

Norrie Continues Impressive Run
Last week’s Delray Beach Open champion Cameron Norrie has extended his winning streak in Acapulco as he marched into the finals of the tournament.
The World no. 12 came into the semi-s final with an impressive 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-4 win against big serving American where he withstood 27 aces, followed by a 6-1,6-0 win against German Peter Gojowczyjk.
Up against world number four from Greece Stefanos Tsitsipas, it was a clinical performance by the Briton as he recorded a straight sets win and upset the favorite in this encounter.
Norrie had a poor 0-4 start in Australia, but he struck form in Rotterdam, winning two matches and reaching the last eight. A title at Delray Beach followed, and another title run here this weekend would make for a great turnaround.
Nadal v Norrie Prediction and Tip
Norrie has been in excellent form in the last couple weeks, but he is running into red hot Rafa Nadal. Expect a good effort by the Briton but Nadal to prevail in straight sets.
