Alison Van Uytvanck v Vera Zvonareva Head to Head
It’s 3-0 to Alison who has won their three WTA meetings in straight sets. The most recent one came just last week in the Qatar Open, where the Belgian prevailed 6-4, 6-4.

Zvonareva Continues her Resurgence
Vera Zvonareva continues to work hard on the WTA tour as she looks to rediscover her form and make new strides at the age of 37. As a former World No. 2 (current ranking #103), the Russian has an enviable pedigree stretching back to 2002.
She is a two-time Grand Slam finalist on the singles circuit and a five-time champion on the doubles. Zvonareva faded from the scene in 2011 and has since been largely on the sidelines.
Last year was one of her better seasons on the tour. She ended the year with a tally of 11-10 and her best result came in a third-round stint in the Italian Open. Zvonareva also reached the semis in St. Petersburg and on the doubles, she made it to two Challenger finals with Monica Niculescu.
So far in 2022, she has picked just one win. Following that win over Alison Riske in Melbourne 1, Zvonareva has gone on to lose in the opening rounds in the Slam, St. Petersburg, Dubai, and Doha.

Van Uytvanck, Seeking Wins
While Alison Van Uytvanck is 10 years younger than Zvonareva, she does have the advantage of coming with a slightly better form.
That said, her season so far in 2022 hasn’t been particularly grand either. The Belgian hasn’t made it past the second round in a WTA event; her highlight so far is a second-round appearance in the Australian Open where she downed Cristina Bucsa in the opener.
Last week, the current world number 53 reached the same stage in Doha where she fell to Jil Teichmann in a fiercely-contested battle with 6-7(11), 5-7.
On the whole, Van Uytvanck has had a much better time on the tour than her Russian counterpart. Towards the end of the last season, she won the Astana Open and Limoges Challenger to build some rhythm for the new year.

Zvonareva may have been bested the last three times but this time may be different. Interestingly, this is her first time in the competition so perhaps, a change of place may help her cause.
