Viktorija Golubic v Greet Minnen Head to Head
Golubic holds a 2-0 lead over Minnen, beating her both times in 2021. They last met in Saint-Malo where the Swiss prevailed in three sets.

Greet Minnen has been absolutely terrific in the month of February. Although she did not feature in any of the big WTA events, her results from lower-tier competitions are inspiring and commendable.
The 24-year-old Belgian won the ITF title last Sunday in Germany and was on track to repeat that feat in Nur-Sultan. However, she retired from her final match against Anzhelika Isaeva trailing 4-6 in the first set.
With 11 wins in her last three tournaments, Minnen has done well to turn around her disappointing start to the year.
On the Australian hardcourt events in Melbourne 1 and the Slam, she was beaten in the opening rounds. Most of her WTA stints from the previous season is along the same lines, barring Prague Open (semifinal defeat to Tereza Martincova) and the US Open (third-round exit to Bianca Andreescu).

Golubic, at a Career High
Viktorija Golubic is off to a decent start to the season, despite lacklustre results. She is now the current world number 36 – a career-best for her and a feat she achieved after reaching the quarterfinal in Melbourne 1.
Since then, however, the 29-year-old has been on the short end of the stick. Having lost in the first round in Adelaide and Melbourne, she moved to the Middle East swing in hope of some reprieve. In Dubai, Golubic was downed in the qualifying rounds while in Doha, she succumbed to the eventual champion Iga Swiatek 2-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Compared to Minnen, Golubic has been far more impressive on the whole. Not only did she reach the finals here in Lyon Open (lost to Clara Tauson in the final), but she also was a runner-up in Monterrey. Additionally, she won the Saint-Malo Challenger and took home two ITF trophies from the season.

Golubic is well-experienced and combined with her lead over Minnen and a superior pedigree in Lyon, she should do well to win this one and reach the second round.
