Parrizas-Diaz Building Confidence for Clay Swing

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz plays her best tennis on clay however she has been becoming a very old hard court player in recent times. The late bloomer from Spain found much success last year breaking into the top 100 and solidifying her position there.

This year she has a 5-4 record which is pretty good considering it all came on hard courts. Most of those wins came in Australia and after losing to Jessica Pegula in the 3rd round there, she is yet to win a match. Last week in Guadalajara, she ran into Anna Schmiedlova and lost comfortably.

Her level shown there has not been particularly good and not much is expected in Monterrey either but for the Spaniard picking up confidence for the upcoming clay, swing is most important. The Spaniard will look for any wins here and with no pressure, she might pull it off.

Hovering Inside the top 100 for Doi

Misaki Doi is a veteran who has played on the WTA tour for a very long time. The Japanese player is not playing her peak tennis and she hasn’t been doing that for a while. Still, her tennis level has been quite consistent allowing her to hold herself in the top 100.

In 2022 it’s been more of the same. She is consistent albeit not good enough to do anything of it. Her record on the year is 4-4 and the majority of those wins came in Adelaide where she reached the quarterfinal. It was actually a rare quarterfinal that she failed to follow up with any result of note.

Last week in Guadalajara, she put up a strong effort against Marie Bouzkova who ended up reaching the final of the event which indicates a solid baseline level once more. The Japanese player will get a chance to win a match in Mexico against Parrizas-Diaz who does not play too well on hard courts.

Parrizas-Diaz v Doi Prediction and Tip

So this is a very interesting matchup between two players that are fairly close in levels on hard courts. If this was played on clay the Spaniard would have a clear advantage but in these conditions, I might even favour the Japanese player.

She played much better than her opponent last week and has shown a very good level this year. If she replicates the event she had against Bouzkova last week in Guadalajara she should win this match comfortably. Parrizas has not shown a very high level since the Australian where she actually played really well.

Can she turn it around this week? Possibly. Will she? I don’t think so. Doi plays a style that can catch players off guard and considering it’s their first matchup I am going to back the Japanese player to win this match.

Tip: Doi to win: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
