Ann Li v Xinyu Wang Head to Head

They played once before and it came not long ago at the Australian Open where Wang proved better 7-6(5) 6-3.

Positives for Li in Doha

Ann Li has a lot of tennis talent and anyone who has ever watched her confirm that. However, her breakout has been a slow and steady process because the American was her worst enemy at times. Consistency has been all over the place and her confidence shifted with her consisteny.

In 2022 it’s been much steadier which allowed for some solid results. Last week in Doha she took down a struggling Sofia Kenin after which she lost to Maria Sakkari. Both of these matches weree good for Li who looked comfortable. It was a much more positive development after two consecutive loses in the opening rounds of events.

Returning to Monterrey should be a good thing for Li who played superb tennis here last year. She defeated several notable players en route to the semifinal where she lost to finalist Golubic. Can she replicate that result in 2022? Find out below.

Lacklustre Start for Wang in 2022

Xinyu Wang is another youngster who has a lot of potential however her level so far this year has been rather disappointing. The tremendous potential is something that has not yet been unlocked for the Chinese players although it shows at times.

It was most visible during the Australian Open where Wang nearly ousted Aryna Sabalenka but ultimately failed in the final set. Losing in the final set is something she does often as the mental side still proves a weakness for her. It’s something she will need to overcome as it bothered her last week in Guadalajara as well.

Wang won the first-round matchup against Panna Udvardy in three sets but was unable to do the same against Kalinskaya in the next round. She rarely goes down without a fight so she gets that positive. Consistency and confidence will need to be built up and a good run here could just do that.

Li v Wang Prediction and Tip

Li and Wang played a very close match in Melbourne and it’s something I expect will replicate here. Wang rarely loses matches in straight sets and usually puts up a very good effort most of the time. Li on the other hand has had her issues with consistency as well and due to a weaker serve has issues serving out matches.

Li has familiarity with this event having played in the semifinal here and considering the unique experience Monterrey provides it’s something to keep in mind. Her familiarity will certainly help her but her weaker serve could be an issue against Wang who likes to attack.

That serve proved to be an issue for Li but I think she can get away with it here. I do think it will be a 3-setter but I think Li will get her revenge. I am more sure of the 3 sets than Li winning but I lean towards Li more so than towards Wang.

Tip: Li to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
