Petra Martic is not enjoying a very fruitful year so far however the Croatian did not play that many matches, to begin with (5 overall, 2 wins). One of those wins came here in the first round against Madison Keys who disappointed once more in Mexico.
It was a good win from Martic who has been picking up her form since the start of the season when she played abysmally. Generally, it’s been somewhat of a tough time for the Croatian because outside of a few clay victories, she simply did not show anything of note.
That dropped her ranking way outside of the top 20 where she was when the pandemic hit and it’s been never the same for Martic. Perhaps the win over Keys can give her confidence as she will face a very strong Bouzkova who is still recovering from a deep run last week.

Breakthrough in Mexico for Bouzkova
Marie Bouzkoav somewhat broke through in Mexico as she had a tremendous run last week in Guadalajara reaching the final of the event. Despite losing it gave her quite a bit of confidence that she carried over to Monterrey winning a very close first match.
Fatigue was a concern in that match and there was quite a bit of it however she was able to pull through. With a full day of rest, Bouzkova should be good to go however the fatigue factor might still come into play if Martic batis her into longer rallies.
Neither possesses a too strong baseline game which makes me think that this match won’t be short. I could easily see three sets and it could go either way. Bouzkova player better recently but how long can she sustain it.
Martic v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip
So this is a very even matchup in my opinion as both have played rather well in the first round. Bouzkova has played better recently and generally showed quite a bit of improvement in her tennis compared to last year. Martic on the other hand is trending downwards despite the good win in round one.
The victory over Keys is solid however the American has been abysmal since her Australian Open run and she played a rather lacklustre match against Martic. It’s very tough to call because if Bouzkova was not so fatigued I could back her comfortably.
I do think the conditions do suit her game a bit better but that fatigue is something I can not look past easily. I think it will go to three sets but I’m not sure whom to back. Both can win it and fitness might prove crucial. Take the over on games.
