Winning Ways in Mexico for Wang

Qiang Wang opened the season in rather good form scoring some impressive wins early such as the win over Coco Gauff in Melbourne. Since then her level has not dropped off as she still keeps winning matches and she showed that last week in Guadalajara reaching the semifinal.

She lost to Marie Bouzkova who eventually lost in the final. In the first round of Monterrey, she took on Dalma Galfi and proved better in 3 sets. It was a solid effort from Wang yet not quite on the level shown in Guadalajara. This event is a bit more punishing in terms of conditions and she might run into trouble if she lapses in focus.

Overall Wang is a better player than Sherif and she should enter this match with a lot more confidence following another win in round one. It’s a good chance to extend this solid run and earn some points that will get her back into the top 100.

First Season Win for Sherif in Monterrey

Mayar Sherif arrived in Mexico without a single win on the season but it changed after a very solid performance against Mendez. Despite Sherif being considerably better ranked than her opponent it still took her quite an effort to down the Australian.

Overall Sherif likes to return to Mexico as she played here last year as well however unlike last year she was able to get a win. The victory over Mendez was her first one of the season and that should give her confidence moving forward.

Whether it will be enough to lift her past Wang remains to be seen but the Egyptian will cherish any chance of playing well on hard courts as they are not her best surface.

Wang v Sherit Prediction and Tip

Wang is the better play by far despite being ranked much much lower. The Chinese player simply did not defend her points well enough but she is playing well and she should return to the top 100 rather quickly. She is also the better hard court player and has shown a lot more this season than Sherif.

Both like to play aggressive tennis with Sherif often times failing to control that aggressiveness. That can result in many errors and that’s something Wang will try to exploit. She has all the tools to do that successfully and I expect her to do that.

Overall I think Wang will win this easily. If this was clay then it would have been a much closer match.

Tip: Wang to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
