Sara Sorribes Tormo v Nuria Parrizas Diaz Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Tormo Dispatches Tan

Following a three-set slogfest against Kamilla Rakhimova in the opener, Sara Sorribes Tormo moved on to knock out Harmony Tan in straight sets.

The 25-year-old needed just an hour and 18 minutes to seal the deal with 6-2, 6-2. She also won an impressive 73% of the points behind the first serve and won an impressive nine games consecutively.

With this, Tormo has made it to her second quarterfinal on the 2022 WTA Tour. She delivered a similar run in Guadalajara last week where she ultimately succumbed to Marie Bouzkova in straight sets. Her previous stints this season have ended in early-round exits – namely on the Australian hard courts.

Currently ranked World No. 36, Tormo has made good progress on the tour in the last 12 months. She cracked the top 50, reached her career-best singles ranking, and is closer to a top 30 debut.

Diaz Survives Watson

Yet to drop a set in Monterrey, Nuria Parrizas Diaz continued her flawless run in the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6(2) win over Heather Watson. It wasn’t the most clinical performance from the Spaniard, but she got the job done.

Earlier in the week, she had beaten Misaki Doi in the first round with 6-2, 6-1 to emulate a similar run from Melbourne 2 this season. Diaz also reached the quarterfinal there but was ultimately defeated by Daria Kasatkina.

Since then, the 30-year-old has made it to the third round in the Australian Open while also crashing out of the Guadalajara Open last week in the opener.

Last season, Diaz made some formidable strides on the tour – she won four ITF titles and two WTA 125K trophies. As the current World No. 51, she has moved up some 150 odd places in the ranking.

Tormo v Diaz Prediction and Tip

Tormo will start as the odds-on favourite but Diaz is an opponent not to be taken lightly. She has played far more tennis than her compatriot although, her experience in upper-tier tournaments may not be well-matched.

This should be an entertaining game of tennis, one that may see three sets.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
