Oscar Otte never played in the Indian Wells main draw and it’s an experience that should be quite fun for the German. His playstyle is perfect for these types of courts as he rarely thinks twice about what he wants to do. A powerful serve, a powerful groundstroke and he lives with the result whatever it is.
It’s a playstyle that could work for the German especially if his serve hits as precisely as it can. He showed at Wimbledon last year how dangerous he can be on courts that reward his aggression. Overall in 2022, Otte is 5-6 with wins over lower-ranked players and losses against higher-ranked players.
His level has been okay but his consistency has been all over the place. He has a tendency to overcomplicate things by trying to do too much when there is no reason for it. Against Gasquet that could get him in trouble if he is not careful.

Richard Gasquet is still kicking around on the ATP Tour despite his level not being the highest. The French player is still capable of superb performances as he showed this year a couple of times. His performances in France indoors have shown his fans that he still got something to prove.
How his game translated to the outdoors remains to be seen but in theory, Gasquet should have success at Indian Wells. His serve is still good enough and if he can hit it and create good angles, he can be dangerous for his opponents.
A 4-3 record on the year is quite solid and Otte is an opponent Gasquet can defeat. The Frenchman is more patient and generally calmer when he plays which should suit him good.

This is a clash of quite contrasting styles of tennis. One player is patient while the other is not and that could be the key in this match. Indian Wells allows you to attack yet points are not finished with one shot. Solid movers like Gasquet can keep the ball in play and extended rallies.
Against Otte, that could work, because the German tends to get frustrated rather quickly if things don’t go his way. He never played in the main draw here before so that could be something to keep an eye out for. It should be a close match but I am leaning very much towards Gasquet.
He has shown a very good level and usually surprises when people least expect it. Traditionally, Indian Wells has not been his best event but I think he can pull off the upset here. Don’t be surprised if it goes to three sets and the over might be a solid pick but I’m leaning Gasquet.
