Ilya Ivashka v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
They played three times so far with Struff leading 2-1. Two of those matches came last year with Struff winning on clay in Munich 6-4 6-1 and Ivashka winning in Winston-Salem 6-2 6-1.

Ilya Ivashka had a major comeback last year as the Belarussian player was able to improve his ranking with solid and consistent play throughout the year. As he got more confidence so did his play improve and it all culminated in a superbly dominant run in Winston-Salem where he won his maiden trophy.
2022 has featured an okay start at best for Ivashka who has a 3-4 record so far. He is showing some of that consistency he had last year but his level has actually dropped off a bit. He doesn’t produce a very high level and it’s questionable whether he even can.
This year will prove just how good Ivashka really is and while he is ranked inside of the top 50 it’s questionable where he will be able to keep it. He played only once in Indian Wells before so it could be interesting.

Frustration and Losses for Struff
Jan-Lennard Struff had an okay year in 2021 however the start of 2022 has been quite catastrophic for the German. He is not playing good tennis at all and it’s reflected on his record on the year (1-5). The German actually lost one more match this year and it’s the final one he played in Brazil during the Davis Cup.
It’s not a confidence issue for Struff as the German is not changing much in his play it’s just that he is not winning matches. Opponents simply find a way to bait him into too many mistakes and he cant’s overcome that. Eventually, things will change and Indian Wells could be an opportunity for the German to finally win some matches.
He’s had some success here over the year and expect him to put up a very good effort against his opponent. Whether it will be enough for a win remains to be seen.
Ivashka vs Struff Prediction and Tip
So this is a very interesting matchup because on one hand with have the always solid Ivashka who rarely gives away matches. On the other side, we have Struff who has been playing very poor tennis overall this year losing the majority of his matches.
Indian Wells in theory should suit Struff more and he has had a fair share of success here. He is certainly good enough to beat Ivashka but it will depend on whether he can put forward a complete effort from start to finish. His serve will be key and if Ivashka is not able to return good enough he will be in trouble.
I think this will be a very close match despite none of their previous matches going to three sets. I just don’t see either player really running away with this match and I could see a tiebreak happen as well. I’m leaning Ivashka because he has been more solid overall but I’m aware of Struff’s successes here in the past so maybe the Belarussian in three sets seems most likely.
