Madison Keys v Misaki Doi Head to Head

Keys leads Doi 4-1 in their head-to-head meetings. However, they have not faced each other since the 2019 US Open where Keys won in straight sets.

Keys Looks To Snap Three-Match Losing Streak

Madison Keys was in terrific form in Australia in the month of January. Far from winning a sixth career title in Adelaide, the power-hitting American knocked off a long list of challengers and contenders at the year’s first Major.

Among the casualties, Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin and Barbora Krejcikova felt the full force of Keys’ powerful groundstrokes. And the Indian Wells champion Paula Badosa was also overpowered in mesmeric fashion.

Only the eventual champion and World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty managed to take the sting out of her game in their last four showdown. That defeat has sparked a mini-crisis in the Keys camp. She has lost in two subsequent tournaments at the first hurdle, in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

While the general consensus is that Keys will quickly shake off those losses in her second-round match at the BNP Paribas Open, it is pertinent to note that she doesn’t have a great record in these parts. In eight previous main draw appearances, Keys has only advanced beyond the second round only twice –  a dismal record by her own lofty standards.

Doi Rallies To Beat Potapova

For the third time in her career, Misaki Doi punched her ticket into the second round of the Indian Wells tournament courtesy of a three-set win over Anastasia Potapova.

At one point, the win looked in doubt especially after ceding the first set in just 23 minutes.

Doi lost the first 6-0, but did not lose hope entirely. She composed herself and began chasing Potapova’s short balls and finishing off points at will. The Russian’s patience waned as errors crept in her game as highlighted by a whopping 10 double faults.

Doi landed 44% first serves in a chaotic first set, but that figure rose to 56% in the second set and which saw her break the Potapova serve four times to restore parity. In the decider, the Japanese veteran saved four out of five break points on her serve. And after breaking the Russian to love in game four, she went on to close out an unlikely victory in just under two hours.

Keys v Doi Prediction and Tip

Keys doesn’t have a particularly eye-catching record at Indian Wells, but we can all agree this is an innocuous matchup for her. She owns a 4-1 head-to-head record against Doi and has won at least one bagel set in three of those wins.

Tip: Keys to win AND under 18.5 games: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
