Grigor Dimitrov v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Bublik leads their head to head series by two matches to one. He won their first two matches, at Chengdu in 2019, and at Wimbledon last year, but Dimitrov won their most recent encounter at the Cincinnati Masters a month later.

Dimitrov Inherits Djokovic’s Place in the Draw

Dimitrov essentially took Novak Djokovic’s place in the bottom half of the draw and was seeded as a result of his last minute withdrawal, earning him a first round bye in the process.

That meant that he did not see action until Sunday night when he met Jordan Thompson of Australia, the world number 78.

The first set went initially with serve until the pair swapped breaks in the middle of it.

With nothing further to separate them it went to a tie-break, where again they swapped breaks, before Thompson wilted under the pressure and the Bulgarian was able to claim the first set.

The Australian was on the back foot now and dropped his serve again early in the second set. With Dimitrov offering no break point opportunities of his own, Thompson never looked like getting back in the match which ended when he was broken again.

Bublik Ends Murray’s Hopes

Bublik, already a tour winner this year in Montpellier, was similarly given a first round bye, before facing the former world number one, Andy Murray, who was given yet another wildcard into this event.

The first set was something of an epic struggle, with Bublik having to save four break points against his own serve, before it went to a tie-break.

Bublik had two set points, Murray saved them all, and then held three set points of his own. This time it was Bublik’s turn to save all of them, and, when he earned another set point of his own, he was finally able to make it count.

The Kazakh had to save another break point early in the second set, but then made the breakthrough by breaking the Murray serve. The Scot saved three more break points but could not manufacture a break of his own, and Bublik  was able to close out the contest.

Dimitrov v Bublik Prediction and Tip

As their head to head record shows this is likely to be a close match and could go either way. However, as the higher ranked player who has already won on the ATP Tour this year, Bublik may just have the edge.

Tip: Dimitrov to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
