John Isner v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the Paris Masters in 2017, Isner winning in three sets.

Isner Beats Old Rival

Isner, who was given a bye in the first round, renewed an old rivalry on Sunday with compatriot Sam Querrey dating back to 2010.

Once closely matched, Isner started clear favourite against a man who needed a wildcard to enter the man draw this year, after a long and consistent run of poor form.

However, it was by no means plain sailing for Isner against a man now ranked 114 in the world.

In fact, he was the first to drop his serve in the first set and Querrey had the chance to serve for the set, only to be broken in turn.

Querrey then drew first blood in the tie-break winning the first mini-break, only to then drop his serve twice and allow Isner to claim the advantage.

Serve dominated in the second set to the extent that there were no further breaks and it went to another tie-break.

Again, Querrey got his nose in front first, but three dropped serves cost him the match.

Schwartzman Made to Work His Third Round Passage

Schwartzman, who also received a first round bye, faced the Finn Emil Ruusuvouri, the world number 76, on Sunday.

The Argentine found in tough going at first, and had to save break points before the Finn was the first to drop his serve. But he responded with a break of his own straight away, and another gave him the first set.

Schwartzman, though, broke Ruusuvouri at the start of the second set, and, although he then surrendered that advantage, he broke again and this time was able to consolidate that with a further break to level the match.

He still could not shrug off his opponent and went a break down in the third set only to immediately get things back on serve again.

This time when Ruusuvouri gave him another chance by dropping his serve once more, he took it and served out.

Isner v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

Although Schwartzman is the higher ranked player, Isner has a fine record at Indian Wells, and the surface favours his game better.
