Taylor Fritz v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

Alex de Minaur leads Fritz by 3-1, beating him on the hard courts in Basel, Atlanta, and the Next Gen ATP Finals in Italy 2018.

Their last meeting came in the 2021 US Open where Fritz finally managed to get one on his opponent by defeating him 7-6(4), 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

Fritz Survives Munar

Number 20 seed Taylor Fritz found himself in a pickle in his third-round bout against Jaume Munar. The American ultimately got the job done with 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(2). This win follows his straight-set whitewash of Kamil Majchrzak with 6-1, 6-1.

Looking at this season so far, Fritz is yet to deliver a substantial result on the tour. The 24-year-old has done well to reach the mid-rounds but couldn’t quite manage to go further.

The World No. 20 reached the fourth-round in the Australian Open (loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas) and followed it with a quarterfinal run in the ATP Dallas. His last ATP event was in Acapulco where he was stunned in round two by the #103 Yoshihito Nishioka.

As for Fritz’s overall form, he ended the 2021 season with a tally of 34-22; he reached the semis in Indian Wells (beating Matteo Berrettini, Jannik Sinner, and Alexander Zverev) and the quarters in Paris Masters. Between these two events, Fritz also was a finalist in the St. Petersburg Open.

De Minaur, Yet to Lose a Set

23-year-old Alex de Minaur has had a comfortable start to his campaign in the BNP Paribas Open. He successfully reached the fourth round for the second time here, following easy wins over John Millman (7-6(4), 6-3), and Tommy Paul (7-6(2), 6-4).

Currently ranked World No. 31, the Australian’s highlights include reaching the round of 16 in Melbourne Slam and the quarters in Rotterdam. De Minaur also featured in Dubai but fell in the opener to Karen Khachanov.

Compared to Fritz, De Minaur has won more ATP titles – notably Antalya and Eastbourne last season – but falls short when we look at his performance in upper-tier events.

Fritz v De Minaur Prediction and Tip

This match can swing either way seeing that both players are well-matched. Fritz will fancy his chances a bit more owing to his superior track record in the valley.
