Sloane Stephens v Panna Udvardy Head to Head

This will be the first match between the 29-year-old American, and her Hungarian opponent, who is six years younger.

Stephens has good associations with Miami, which is virtually a home tournament for her because she lives nearby in Fort Lauderdale,
That is because she won the tournament here in 2018, beating Jelena Ostapenko in the final, her biggest win outside her US Open triumph a year later.
She has never been able to fully realise her potential since then due to long struggles with form and finished last year outside the top 60 for the first time in a decade.
However, she enjoyed something of a career revival by winning the Mexican Open last month, her seventh WTA title, but her first since her victory in Miami.
The American will want to improve on her performance in Indian Wells, though, where she lost to Naomi Osaka, although she did take the former world number one to three sets.

WTA 1000 Debut for Udvardy
Udvardy is not only making her debut in Miami, but this will be her first appearance in a WTA 1000 tournament of any kind.
That she is here this year is a reflection of the rapid progress she has made over the past twelve months.
Having ended 2020 ranked 354th in the world, she would rise 259 places by the start of this year and continues to improve.
She has yet to win a senior final, but finished runners-up in a Challenger event in Uruguay in November, and also in the doubles final at the Sydney International two months ago.
However, she has lost all six singles’ matches she has played this year, the most recent of which saw her knocked out in the first round of the qualifying competition for Indian Wells.
Stephens v Udvardy Prediction and Tip
Stephens has the odds stacked in her favour in this match. She is playing in a tournament she has won before, is practically on home soil, and faces an opponent who is totally inexperienced at this level and who is in poor recent form. It would be a major upset were Stephens not to win.
