Magda Linette v Qinwen Zhang Head to Head

Magda Linette had a decent year last year but the Polish player never quite found the rhythm needed to string together a couple of strong wins. 2022 has started even poorer for Linette who has a 3-6 record on the year with disappointing performances in several events.
Indian Wells has not been very good for her and despite the surface being not the best for her it was widely expected of her to defeat qualifier Astra Sharma but she was easily beaten in two sets. Linette has a pretty decent baseline game with a good serve however things have simply not been going good for her this year.
Perhaps things will change at the Miami Open this week as she was able to reach the 2nd round here before. That would be nothing special but getting two wins in a row could do good for her confidence moving forward.

Fantastic Year for Zheng
Qinwen Zheng is having a superb year so far with 16 wins so far and only 5 defeats. The player from China has battled her way into the top 100 and judging by her level and form, she will increase that ranking some more. Some of those wins did come on the ITF tour but even on the WTA tour, Zheng has been pretty solid overall.
She played a very good match against eventual Monterrey champion Leylah Fernandez nearly beating her. She nearly defeated Angelique Kerber last week in Indian Wells and generally, she is proving herself a very tough player to beat.
Her signature playstyle is attacking and her height allows her to catch balls quite early after the bounce which helps. As a very young player she is still finding ways to be more consistent and once she figures that out she will be very tough to beat.
Linette v Zheng Prediction and Tip
We have two players in quite contrasting forms and with different confidence levels. Zheng has played superb tennis this year and while she did lose a couple of close matches it doesn’t look like it’s affecting her much. She keeps on rolling and I expected a pretty good event from her in Miami.
On the other side, we have Linette who has struggled a lot this year I don’t see things changing much for her in Miami. Her history at the event does not fill me with confidence and I think she will find it very hard to overcome Zheng.
I do expect a battle but I don’t think Linette has good enough to win this match so I’m going to back the Chinese player to take this one.
