Ana Konjuh arrives in Miami aiming to win her first match in a month and she is currently on a 3-match losing streak. Her last win came in Doha against Kostyuk in 3-sets, before losing out to Kontaveit 6-2 6-3 in the next round.
The Croatian then fell at the hands of 2-Brits, firstly in Lyon to Boulter in 3-sets, losing out 5-7 6-0 6-3 despite being the 6th seed. Then, most recently to Dart, with Konjuh being forced to retire 6-1 3-1 down.
Konjuh’s most notable performances came at the start of the year down under, reaching 2 quarter-finals in Melbourne and Adelaide. In Melbourne, Konjuh defeated Martincova and Kanepi, before losing out to Zheng in the last-8 7-6(1) 7-6(6).
Then in Adelaide, the 24-year-old defeated Saville and Vondrousova before losing out to Gauff 6-3 6-4 to deny her a spot in the semi-finals.

Ruse Aiming to Channel Dubai Form
Ruse has gradually been improving her ranking and now finds herself on the brink of the top-50 coming into Miami. The Romanian arrives in Miami after losing in the opening round in tennis paradise to Kucova in 3-sets 4-6 6-4 6-1.
Preceding this, Ruse made her way through 3 rounds of qualifying in Dubai scoring impressive victories over Gasanova, Paolini and Tomljanovic.
The 24-year-old then back these up with one of the wins of her career, downing 3rd Badosa in the main draw 6-3 5-7 6-4. However, the draw did not get any easier, falling to compatriot Simona Halep in the next round 6-3 6-2.
A win for Ruse is on the cards and a spot in the second round would set up a tie with 17th seed Rybakina.
Konjuh v Ruse Prediction and Tip
A fascinating opener at the 2022 Miami Open that involved two players with contrasting game styles. It feels like Konjuh has the match on her racket and if she can control the unforced errors will overpower Ruse into the next round. However, if Ruse can stay consistent and draw the errors out of Konjuh, this may force Konjuh to overpress, causing the unforced error count to stack up. Based upon recent form, I think Ruse is the slight favourite to advance to the next round.
