There is certainly no place like home, and Lauren Davis is on her feet again. The American World No. 94 has snapped her four-match losing streak in style at the 2022 Miami Open.
Davis advanced into the main draw with a pair of solid wins in qualifying, beating Priscilla Hon and the highly-talented Xiyu Wang. And as fate would have it, she drew a Chinese qualifier in the main draw and managed to cruise past Yue Yuan, 6-4 6-1.
It was Davis’ first main draw win at the even in eight years. She won 70% first-serve points and broke her 23-year-old opponent four times from eight opportunities. The American’s serve proved to be her biggest asset. She saved a whopping eight break points in the match to confirm her place in the second round.
