It has been an underwhelming start to the season for Bublik despite winning a title in Montpellier. Because in the six other tournaments he has featured in, Bublik has won just three matches, including three opening round defeats.
At the Indian Wells Open two weeks ago, Bublik managed a second round win against Andy Murray but suffered a shock loss at the hands of Grigor Dimitrov in the third. He lost 6-3, 6-4 to bow out of the competition.
This will only be Bublik’s fourth appearance at Miami Open where he has slowly improved as the years have gone by. He had failed to qualify in 2017, was ousted in the second round in 2018 before making it to the last eight stage last year.

Elahi Galan Eases Past Favourite Millman
After having made it to the main draw with a couple of qualifying victories, Elahi Galan went into his opening match against Australia’s John Millman as a 7/4 underdog.
That he won it and did so in straight sets against Millman would be a huge confidence boost for the Colombian.
Elahi Galan, who has never been a top 100 player before this, can be expected to move up the ladder after registering that 6-4, 6-2 win over Millman. The match lasted an hour and 24 minutes with Elahi Galan registering five breaks of serves in the encounter.
And while he was broken twice of his own including once in the very first time he served, Millman got no respite from his opponent.
This followed a quarterfinal appearance in Cordoba where he had defeated Hugo Dellien and Jaume Munar. Can he make it two in two on the hard courts of Miami as well?
