Frances Tiafoe v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before. Tiafoe winning each time. The first was in Acapulco in 2021, when Tiafoe won in three sets, and, more recently, they met in the second round of Indian Wells, a week ago, when he won their second round encounter in straight sets.

Tiafoe has a better record in Miami than at any other Masters’ event. In 2019 he reached the quarter-finals and, last year the fourth round.
The American has not yet fulfilled the early promise he showed when winning the Delray Beach Open in 2018, although he did reach his first final in more than three years last October, losing to Alexander Zverev in Vienna.
He has not played a great deal of tennis in 2022 so far, and has yet to experience any great success, winning just two matches.
The first of those came in the opening round of the Australian Open and the second of those was his defeat of Nakashima in Indian Wells. He was then well beaten by Andrey Rublev in straight sets.
Tiafoe was the recipient of a first-round draw.

Nakashima Wins on Miami Debut
Nakashima is yet to show the same form in 2022 as he found last year when he reached back-to-back finals in Los Cabos and Atlanta, won three Challenger tournaments, and qualified for the NextGen ATP finals.
In fact, his best performance came in his first tournament of the year when he reached the third round in Sydney.
Since then he has had to content himself with a series of first and second round appearances, including in Indian Wells, where Tiafoe ended his interest in the tournament.
However, appearing in Miami for the first time, he marked his debut with a win, beating the South Korean player Soon-woo Kwon on Wednesday.
Nakashima cruised through the first set, dropping just one game in the process.
Kwon made more of a fight of it after that and the second set went with serve, until the eleventh game, when the South Korean dropped his serve once more. The American served out to love.
Tiafoe v Nakashima Prediction and Tip
The bookmakers have Nakashima as the marginal favourite for this match, but given that Tiafoe beat him in Indian Wells just a week ago, that would seem to give him the psychological advantage.
