Carlos Alcaraz v Marin Cilic Head to Head

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz has continued his good run from 2021 into this season.
Winning his first ATP 500 on the clay courts of Rio, and breaking into the top 20 in the ATP rankings for the first time, the Spaniard had a good run in Indian Wells last fortnight. Alcaraz made the semi-finals and lost to Rafael Nadal in an almost three hour seesaw battle of inches.
Playing Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the opener here, Alcaraz did not look at his best missing some forehands that he typically would not.
Nevertheless, the level was good enough for a convincing victory with the Hungarian only winning five games all match long.
In good form and with a promising clay season ahead, Alcaraz will be seeking a good run here which will provide him with plenty of confidence and belief going into the European clay court swing.

Cilic Clinical Against Popyrin
Former world number three and 2014 US Open champion from Croatia, Marin Cilic was once a regular in the top ten of the ATP rankings.
After a disappointing couple seasons, Cilic got off to a good start Down Under making the semi-finals of the ATP250s in Adelaide and the round of 16 at the Aussie Open.
Although he was out early in Indian Wells last week in an epic encounter with Miomir Kecmanovic, he looked in clinical form in the opener here.
Up against big serving Aussie Alexi Popyrin, Cilic looked in cruise control not dropping a game in the opening set, serving well and hitting a big forehand.
Although Popyrin looked better in the second set, there was not much room to settle into any rhythm as Cilic broke early and continued the good serving to close out the match 6-3 in the second.
The Croat will be hoping to continue the good form and get some confidence under his belt with a good run here in Miami
Alcaraz v Cilic Prediction and Tip
Although Alcaraz has been in better form of the two in recent times, the matchup on this surface could favor the veteran. Expect a closer match than anticipated and it will be down to who is better on the big points.
The young Spaniard to prevail in a decider.
