This will be a first meeting between the two.

Alcaraz Stuns Tsitsipas Again

Carlos Alacarz caused a major upset at the U.S. Open last year, beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in a thrilling five-set third round contest. On Tuesday, the 18-year-old showed that was no fluke as he topped the Greek once again. And this time they didn’t need to go the distance as Alcaraz completed the job in straight sets to march into a second straight quarterfinals of an ATP 1000 tournament.

The Spaniard had made it to a maiden Masters quarterfinal in Indian Wells this year, going on to reach the semifinals before falling to Rafael Nadal. He has kept that form going in Miami, reaching the last eight without dropping a set in the opening three matches.

The win over Tsitsipas also improved the World no. 16 to 15-2 in 2022, a season that also saw him claim his second ATP title in Rio.

The Spaniard began his run in Miami with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hungary’s Márton Fucsovics. He then ousted the 21st seed Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-4 in the third round. He wasn’t broken once in either of the first two matches.

In the fourth round against Tsitsipas, he had his back against the wall after Tsitsipas got a break and took a 2-5 lead in the first set. But a determined Alcaraz fought back to keep the set alive. He got the break back in the ninth game and then broke again in the 11th before sealing the first set. He won five consecutive games to close out the first set.

The tide had turned and Tsitsipas continued to struggle in the second set with Alcaraz getting off to a 2-0 start. The World No. 5 did put a break on Alcaraz’s streak of seven consecutive games, but didn’t have enough to overcome the break advantage. Alcaraz meanwhile broke a second time in the second set to eliminate the third seed 7-5, 6-3 and move into the quarterfinals in Miami for the first time in just his second attempt.

Kecmanovic Gets His Revenge Over Fritz

Ousted by Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Open, Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic got his revenge in the fourth round in Miami, as he rebounded from a set down to beat the 11th seed American and advance to a second consecutive ATP 1000 quarterfinal.

This has been an outstanding year for the Serb so far, as he improved to 17-6 this season and will be featuring in a fourth consecutive quarterfinal in 2022 on Wednesday.

Following his best ever Grand Slam showing in Melbourne, where he reached the fourth round, Kecmanovic reached the last eight in Rio, Santiago and Indian Wells. However, he faltered at that stage in all the three previous occasions. Can he make it to the semifinals in Miami?

The World no. 48 has definitely shown signs that he can go a long way. Beginning with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 victory over America’s Jack Sock, he went on to demolish seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. InRound 3, he faced another tough competitor in Sebastian Korda but yet again came out on top with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory.

Having won his first three matches in straight sets, he was put under pressure by the Indian Wells champion in the fourth round as Fritz got the only break of the first set to go one-set up.

The Serb however came back strongly in the second, racing to a 5-0 lead before closing the set 6-1 and forcing the decider. Kecmanovic was once again the dominant player in the third set, gettting the sole break and wrapping up the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Alcaraz v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

This calls for another exciting quarterfinal. Both players have been in great form this year. But it’s Alcaraz who has turned heads with his performances. The Spaniard has got some big wins recently and looks likely to reach the semifinals in Miami.
