Daniil Medvedev v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

Medvedev leads 2-1 head to head. While Hurkacz won at the Wimbledon last year, Medvedev won in Canada at the ATP Finals.

Medvedev One Win Away from Regaining No. 1 Spot

Daniil Medvedev is just a win away from reclaiming the World No. 1 ranking. On Tuesday, he overcame a slow start to dump out the United States’ Jenson Brooksby in the Round of 16 to march into the second straight quarterfinals in Miami. Last year, the World No. 2 was beaten by Roberto Bautista Agut in the last eight stage.

Medvedev has not dropped a set this week. The 26-year-old began his fourth Miami Open campaign with a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 win over Andy Murray. In the next round, Medvedev struck 14 aces against Pedro Martinez to beat the Spaniard 6-3, 6-4.

After the first two easy outings, he faced a different challenge against Brooksby in the Round of 16, as the fast rising American broke in the very first game of the match to put the top seed under pressure. With both players holding serve over the next eight games, Brooksby served for the first set at 4-5 but the 2021 U.S. Open champion had other ideas. He broke Brooksby to draw level and then won the next two games as well to clinch the first set.

The momentum had shifted with Medvedev winning four consecutive games to seal the first set. And he continued that rhythm in the second set, winning the first three games. Brooksby finally held serve in the fourth game after losing seven consecutive games in the match, but that wasn’t enough as Medvedev looked unstoppable, winning the next three games in a hurry and wrapping up the contest 7-5, 6-1. Medvedev struck eight aces and won 85% points on the back of his first serve.

He faces the defending champion next and that promises to be a cracking matchup.

Hurkacz Extends Miami Streak to Nine Matches

World No. 10 Hubert Hurkacz extended his streak in Miami to nine matches as he knocked out Lloyd Harris in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

The Polish player, who ousted Jannik Sinner to win the title last year, endured a tough start against the South African, before turning on the style to reach the quarterfinals. Overall, Hurkacz improved to 11-1 in Miami and improved his 2022 record to 13-5.

Both Hurkacz and Harris were on the money with their serve in the first set, with neither getting broken over the first 12 games. But it was Hurkacz who ran away with the first set tiebreak to go one-set up. Haris began the second set brightly, going up a break for a 0-2 start, but Hurkacz came roaring back, winning the next six games in a row for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory.

The eighth seed out-aced World No. 44, 9-6, won 79 percent points on the back of his first serve, saved three of four break points and also converted three of four.

A four-time champion on the tour, Hurkacz had began his campaign with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win over Arthur Rinderknech in the second round. He was taken to three sets by Aslan Karatsev in the third round, but still managed to beat the 29th seed, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

Medvedev v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a very close contest. The top seed will be the favourite but he comes up against a player who is on a hot streak in Miami. Three sets seem imminent in the match with Medvedev expected to edge past the Polish player.
