Jiri Vesely v Malek Jaziri Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, all on clay. Vesely beat Jaziri in qualifying for the French Open in 2013, and again in Bucharest two years later, but Jaziri won their most recent encounter in Istanbul in 2018.

Dubai Finalist Vesely

Vesely produced his best tennis in many a year in Dubai, where he had to come through qualifying first.

But having done so he achieved a string of victories against men ranked much higher than him, including Marin Cilic and Roberto-Batuista-Agut, before achieving the biggest win of his career by beating the world number one Novak Djokovic.

He went on to beat Denis Shapovalov in the semi-finals before finally losing to Andrey Rublev.

The Czech chose to swerve the two American Masters’ events and stayed in Europe to begin his clay court season on the Challenger tour.

He has just reached the semi-finals of a tournament in Marbella.

Tunisian Veteran Jaziri

Jaziri is at the veteran stage of a long career, having first turned pro back in 2003.

His best result on tour came back in 2018 when he finished runner-up in Istanbul, also on clay to the Japanese player Taro Daniel.

He spends the majority of his time on the Challenger tour, where he achieved his best result so far this year in a tournament in France last week, reaching the quarter-final.

The Tunisian was given wildcard entries into the tournaments in Doha and Dubai to guarantee that at least one Arab player would feature in the main draw, and a  similar motivation has led to his inclusion in Marrakesh.

He will be hoping to improve on his first round exits in both of those events.

Vesely v Jaziri Prediction and Tip

Vesely is buoyed after his performances in Dubai and, already acclimatised to clay again, should have little difficulty with the veteran.
