Lopez Yet to Win Singles Match in 2022

Feliciano Lopez is yet to win a singles match in 2022. The 40-year-old Spaniard, who won his sixth doubles title with Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Mexican Open recently, is 0-3 in the main draws and 0-5 overall in singles this year.

The left-handed Spaniard has been a decent player on all surfaces throughout his career. On clay, he has a 131-139 career record, winning one title from four finals.

Lopez’s three main-draw losses this year came against John Millman at the Australian Open, Jordan Thompson in Dallas and Yoshihito NIshioka in Acapulco. He fell in the first qualifying round in Montpellier to Ernests Gulbis and in the first qualifying round at Indian Wells to Christopher Eubanks.

At Houston, the Spaniard has a pretty good 8-5 record. He was a semifinalist in 2012 and 2016 and a quarterfinalist in 2015 and 2017.

He will be hoping to end his losing streak in the first round.

Brouwer to Make ATP Debut

The Netherlands’ Gijs Brouwer qualified for the main draw with a comeback win over Canada’s Steven Diez in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

The World No. 361 Brouwer converted five of nine break points and saved six of nine to win the two hour and 40 minutes match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Brouwer had beaten Chile’s Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera 6-4, 6-2 in the first qualifying round.

Brouwer will be making his ATP main draw debut on Monday. He doesn’t have a lot of experience on clay at the Challenger level but he is 64-49 on clay at the ITF level and that includes one title.

It will be interesting to see how the 26-year-old right-hander starts off in Houston.

Lopez v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Given Lopez’s experience he should win this one and advance for a second round meeting with either Jenson Brooksby or J.J. Wolf.
